This program will be conducted in English.

Post-traumatic stress disorder has gained the attention of the American Public in the aftermath of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; however, it has long been a problem in both the military and civilian setting.  What are the origins of our understanding of this condition and what are some of the controversies that have prevented its recognition and treatment over the years?

The Beijing American Center will host a lecture featuring Barry Fisher MD Regional Medical Officer-Psychiatrist of the US Embassy Beijing in a presentation tracing the history of modern psychiatry’s attempts to understand Post-traumatic stress disorder. His lecture will begin with the mid 1800s and end with our current understanding of this condition.   Dr. Fisher is a former United States Veteran’s Administration Psychiatrist who specialized in the treatment of combat related Post-traumatic stress disorder prior to his joining the Department of State.

This program is not suitable for children under 6 .
