Guion Bluford was the first African American to travel into outer space.  He was one of 35 people selected for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) space shuttle team out of a total of 10,000 applicants!  On August 30, 1983, Bluford made history while working as a specialist for mission STS-8 aboard the space shuttle Challenger.  By the time he retired in 1993, he had completed four NASA missions and compiled 688 hours in space.  Who are other famous African American astronauts?
