Many comic book superheroes have been brought to life on film.  The first modern superhero film was Superman: The Movie released in 1978 and based on the original DC Comics character.  The live-action feature film was directed by Richard Donner and produced by Warner Bros., starting Marlon Brando (Jor-El, superman’s biological father), Christopher Reeve (Superman), Gene Hackman (villain Lex Luther), and Margot Kidder (Lois Lane).   When produced in 1977-78, it was the most expensive film made to that point with a production budget of $55 million.  The worldwide gross from the film was over $300 million and it was nominated for three Academy Awards.  The film is also know for using groundbreaking special effects that brought the superhero film genre into the modern era, influencing subsequent superhero movies for more than a generation.   What do you think about the first Superman movie?
