李锡奇：画坛变调鸟
Lee Shi Chi
1938年出生于金门，1949年遭逢古宁头战役，1955年保送入台北师范学校艺术科，1958年组织“现代版画会”，以突破传统观念，建立自由、独立的现代精神之艺术为主旨，1959年开始参加国际性大展，1963年加入“东方画会”，为该会中后期重要成员，1970年至今作品媒材、风格多变，素有“画坛的变调鸟”美名。1996年在台北市立美术馆举办大型回顾展，并于2000年完成了韩国、日本、纽约、香港等地的巡回个展，引起国际艺坛广泛的重视。李锡奇作为前辈艺术家，长期推动台湾的现代艺术发展，也是最早提倡两岸艺术交流的发起人。
李锡奇的现代绘画艺术有两个重要的出发点：一是来自民间和传统的民族因素的潜在影响：一是来自西方的现代艺术的显在吸引。由金门的乡土出发而交错在中国历史沧桑中的文化领悟，构成了李锡奇毕生绘画的宏大背景。而在台湾开放的艺术氛围中成长的历程又提供给了李锡奇对现代艺术多元选择的可能。
本次亚洲艺术中心（北京）举办的 “风林火山- 源自东方的抽象” 展出艺术家2000年之后的“墨雨”系列作品，他运用油漆与水性交叠相互排斥的原理，使其宣纸底下木板与底漆的质感显现于表面，流露出一种岁月记忆斑驳的历史沧桑感。这系列作品可以说是进入成熟阶段后的又一次创作飞跃。

Lee Shi Chi was born in Kinmen in 1938, and experienced Battle of Ku-Ning-Tou in 1949. In 1955, he was admitted to the Art Department of Taipei Normal University. In 1958, he established the Modern Printmaking Society to break through the traditional concept and aim to create the art with free, independent and modern spirit. He began to participate in international exhibitions in 1959 and joined Eastern Painting Group in 1963. He was an important member of Eastern Painting Group at its middle and later stage. Since 1970, his works changed frequently in the aspect of material and style, and he was known as the “changeable bird of the painting field”. In 1996, he held a large-scale retrospective exhibition at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and completed a solo exhibition in Korea, Japan, New York, Hong Kong and other places in 2000, which attracted extensive attentions from the international art society. As a predecessor artist, Lee Shi Chi had long been promoting the development of modern arts in Taiwan and was the first promoter of cross-strait art exchanges.

Lee Shi Chi’s modern painting art has two important starting points: First, the potential influence of elements from folk and tradition; Second, the attraction of modern art from the West. The cultural comprehension of the vicissitudes of Chinese history, which was derived from the local customs of Kinmen, constituted the grand background of Lee’s lifelong painting. The experience of growing up in the open-ended art atmosphere of Taiwan provided Lee Shi Chi the possibility of choosing from diversified modern arts.
