展览前言
什么是“摄影手工书”？先从字面意思解读，就是与摄影有关的，手工制作或具有手工感的，以类书形式呈现的作品集或作品装置。手工书是一种近年来逐渐流行起来的作品呈现方式，抛开设计的部分，内容和思想依旧是一部作品的核心价值，是让一部作品立得住、传得快甚至卖得好的关键。读书是汲取养分的过程，好的设计之于好的内容来说，应该是锦上添花，而不是喧宾夺主。就比如历届“最美的书”，无一例外都是秀外慧中，而不会是纯粹的“样子”。摄影作品也一样，是用作品本身打动人，无论是视觉还是叙事，手工书是让创作者最大程度地介入到自己作品的展示和表达之中，做好自己的策展人、图片编辑、设计师和印刷总监。
摄影手工书对于影像艺术作品的呈现展示四个方面的特点：
首先是“作为艺术家书的第一属性”。即以艺术家本人意志为主导的综合性作品，作品形态以服务艺术家本人诉求和凸显艺术家本人才华为目的，可以更完整、更系统、更个性地展示一部静态影像作品，有且不止于包含绘画、书法、篆刻、日记、笔记、刺绣、剪裁、标本、折纸等多样化技能融入到一部摄影作品的表达和呈现之中。
第二个特点是“被压缩的展线”。想做一个脉络清晰、表达完整、观感舒适的传统摄影个展，展线的充足是必不可少的支撑，少到三米五米，大到一个展厅展馆，而摄影手工书显然可以轻松地用一本经折装、龙鳞装或者长卷去将三米五米甚至更长的内容压缩为一本册页或一支卷轴，堪称“麻雀虽小五脏俱全”“袖中藏乾坤”。
第三个特点是“可移动的展览”。框画的包装和运输是一个大工程，数量越多、尺幅越大，麻烦就越大，小到东三省去云贵川，大到阿尔勒去洛杉矶，想把一场大型联展尤其是原作展做成巡回展，安全和成本是头等大事，而如果四处移动的展览是由许许多多“原作手工书”构成的，那就容易了许多，也许两只皮箱就可以去任何地方。
最后要谈的是“更自由的展场”。展览一定要放在有白墙射灯的地方吗？摄影手工书的展览也许只是需要一个优雅宽敞的空地就可以，比如书店、咖啡店、茶社、餐厅、酒店、4S店、售楼中心等我们能想到的更多地方，我们只需要关心展示与传播，流量与群体，创作与转化的关系，就可以巧妙解决在哪里做展的难题。
展览现场使用了象征活力和健康的橙色对展览场地进行了全方位包裹，打造了专门的雕塑来明确“阅读”主题，设置了作品主展区、多媒体观看区、文创休息区以及出版物交流区四大区域，以高空悬挂的海报旋涡，空地摆放的几何体装置，随处可见的绿植盆景来丰富空间生态，当优雅音乐响起的时候，以“阅读”为主旨的健康、绿色、安静、温馨、现代的展览空间就能跃然眼前。
平遥国际摄影大展首次设立摄影手工书展单元，希望汇聚全球范围以摄影手工书为创作方式的人才和团队，发现具有美学价值、阅读价值、传播价值、研究价值、市场价值五方面特质的摄影手工书作品及其创作者，予以扶持和推广，使其成为平遥国际摄影大展新的亮点。展览从7月24日启动征集，截至8月20日截稿共收到包括中国、希腊、日本、德国、法国、比利时等国内国际投稿作品200余件。9月10日，经来自策展、出版、书籍装帧设计、视觉编辑、文化艺术场馆等相关领域的五位行业专家经过3轮严谨认真的推荐和各抒己见的研讨，最终选出了50件优秀入展作品，并从中诞生了“十佳摄影手工书奖”10件、“摄影手工书新人奖”2件、“摄影手工书全场大奖”1件，共13件“弘创典藏奖”获奖作品。
What is a "photography DIY book"? Literally speaking, it refers to a collection or installation of works related to photography that are DIY or have a Handmade feel, presented in the form of a book. DIY books are a gradually popular way of presenting works in recent years. Regardless of the design aspect, content and ideas remain the core values of a work, and are the key to making it stand, pass on quickly, and even sell well. Reading is a process of absorbing nutrients, and good design should be the icing on the cake for good content, rather than dominating it. For example, the "most beautiful books" of all time are all about appearance and wisdom, rather than pure "appearance". Photography works are the same, using the work itself to impress people, whether it is visual or narrative. DIY books allow creators to maximize their involvement in the display and expression of their works, serving as curators, image editors, designers, and printing directors.
The presentation of photographic DIY books showcases four characteristics of visual art works:
Firstly, it is the first attribute of being an artist's book. A comprehensive work led by the artist's own will, the form of the work serves the artist's personal needs and highlights the talent of the artist. It can showcase a static image work more comprehensively, systematically, and personalized, including but not limited to diverse skills such as painting, calligraphy, seal cutting, diary, notes, embroidery, cutting, specimens, origami, etc., integrated into the expression and presentation of a photographic work.
The second characteristic is the "compressed development line". To create a traditional photography solo exhibition with clear lines, complete expression, and comfortable appearance, sufficient exhibition lines are essential support, ranging from three to five meters in length to a large exhibition hall. Photography DIY books can easily be compressed into a single album or scroll with a folded, dragon scale, or long scroll, which can be called "although a sparrow is small and has all five organs" and "the universe is hidden in the sleeve".
The third characteristic is "movable exhibition". The packaging and transportation of box paintings is a big project, with the more quantity and size, the greater the trouble. From the northernmost part of China to the southernmost part of China， to Arles to Los Angeles, if you want to turn a large joint exhibition, especially the original exhibition, into a touring exhibition, safety and cost are the top priorities. If the exhibition that moves around is composed of many "original DIY books", it will be much easier. Perhaps two suitcases can go anywhere.
The last thing to talk about is "a more free exhibition hall". Must the exhibition be placed in a place with white wall spotlights? The exhibition of photography DIY books may only require an elegant and spacious space, such as bookstores, coffee shops, tea houses, restaurants, hotels, 4S stores, sales centers, and other places that we can think of. We only need to care about the relationship between display and dissemination, flow and group, creation and transformation, and can cleverly solve the problem of where to do the exhibition.
The exhibition site was fully wrapped in orange, which symbolizes vitality and health. Specialized sculptures were created to clarify the theme of "reading". Four major areas were set up, including the main exhibition area, multimedia viewing area, cultural and creative rest area, and publication exchange area. The space was enriched with posters hanging in high air, geometric devices placed in the open space, and green bonsai that can be seen everywhere. When elegant music is played, A healthy, green, quiet, warm, and modern exhibition space with the theme of "reading" can stand out in front of you.
The Pingyao International Photography Exhibition has established a photography DIY book exhibition unit for the first time, hoping to gather talents and teams from around the world who use photography DIY books as their creative methods, discover photography DIY book works and their creators with aesthetic value, reading value, dissemination value, research value, and market value, and support and promote them, making them a new highlight of the Pingyao International Photography Exhibition. The exhibition started soliciting on July 24th, and as of August 20th, we have received over 200 domestic and international submissions from China, Greece, Japan, Germany, France, Belgium, and other countries. On September 10th, five industry experts from the fields of curation, publishing, book binding and design, visual editing, cultural and art venues, and other related fields, after three rounds of rigorous and serious recommendations and discussions to express their own opinions, ultimately selected 50 excellent exhibition works, and gave birth to 10 "Top 10 Photography DIY Books Award", 2 "New Photography DIY Books Award", and 1 "Photography DIY Books Grand Prize", A total of 13 award-winning works from the Hongchuang Collection Award.
