AIIB’s Internship Program

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in January 2016 and have since grown to 105 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized at USD100 billion and Triple-A-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Working with partners, AIIB meets clients’ needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled and promotes regional connectivity.

The program aims to offer postgraduate students an opportunity to gain relevant work experience while contributing to the growth and success of AIIB.

Eligibility

Applicants must have excellent academic records and professional qualifications while possessing strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills. The program is open to candidates of any citizenship.

Education: Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time masteral or doctoral study program from an internationally recognized institution with plans to return to school. Candidates working toward degrees in areas aligned with AIIB’s institutional goals are preferred.

Experience: Relevant professional work experience (including summer jobs and internships) would be an advantage but not necessary.

Communication: Fluent in oral and written English.

AIIB Employment Restriction Policy: A partner or close relative of an AIIB staff member shall not be eligible to apply for internship.

Stipend

Interns will receive USD80 per workday.

Virtual Internship

Due to COVID-19, interns may conduct their internship assignment virtually.

Positions

AIIB invites applications for the following positions:

Intern, Implementation Monitoring

The Portfolio Monitoring Intern will work in the Implementation Monitoring Department’s (IMD) data team and be involved in the (i) automation of portfolio reports, (ii) maintenance of the Project Insights Dashboard, and (iii) analysis and visualization of portfolio data.

Intern, Banking Department Region 1

AIIB is looking for summer interns to join its Banking Department, Investment Operations Region 1. The intern will conduct market research and support operations for executing investment projects.

Intern, Banking Department Region 2

AIIB is looking for summer interns to join its Banking Department, Investment Operations Region 2. This will be a great opportunity for graduate students to work with investment professionals in international developmental finance.

Intern, Infrastructure Investment - Transport

The purposes of the internship are the following:Support AIIB’s Transport team in developing an assessment of the transport sector in a country assigned by the task manager. Support AIIB’s Transport team in project preparation and updating of the transport unit cost database.

Intern, Infrastructure Investment - Energy

The purposes of the internship are the following:Support the Infrastructure Investment Region 1 (INF1) Energy Team in the preparation of sovereign-backed financing (SBF) and nonsovereign-backed financing (NSBF) projects in the Energy Sector in South Asian countries. Support INF1’s Energy Team carry out various research and daily tracking of market/industry data.

Intern, Infrastructure Investment Department Region 2

The Infrastructure Investment Department, Region 2 geographically covers Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia, East Asia, West Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. The department invests in the Transport, Energy, Water, and Urban sectors.

Intern, Economics Department

Education: Currently enrolled in a reputable postgraduate degree in business, economics, statistics (or equivalent), with an understanding of key statistics groups such as national accounts, trade, industrial production, etc.

Intern, Office of the Treasurer

AIIB’s Office of the Treasurer (TRE) is setting up processes and systems across its operations to allow it to scale up to the needs of AIIB. This internship position will delve into an area of need for TRE as determined at the time of the internship. Possibilities include the following: work on enhancement to modelling capabilities including to the Long-Term Financial Projection and cash management projections; assist in the research on investment possibilities within certain market sectors or strategies; develop funding marketing materials to assist in marketing AIIB issuances; or develop tools to automate treasury operations processes, among other possibilities.

Intern, Office of the Controller

The Loan Management Team with the Office of the Controller is responsible for loan disbursement and servicing for the entire AIIB Investment Operations portfolio. The intern is expected to work with other team members, primarily in loan system testing, as well as participate in the development of a client portal project.

Intern, Internal Audit Office

Contribute to the design and implementation of the Audit Management Tool for Internal Audit Office (IAO).

Intern, Annual Meeting

The 2022 Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors will be held in October with Russia as host. The Corporate Secretariat is the lead organizer of the Annual Meeting and will provide high-level support for the governance, communications and engagement with the Bank’s members and stakeholders.

The Intern, Annual Meeting will support the Corporate Secretariat in coordinating and implementing the 2022 Annual Meeting in Russia. The intern will be based in Moscow or Sochi, Russia for the duration of the assignment.

Intern, Corporate Secretariat

AIIB Annual Meetings of Board of Governors are held annually in Bank’s members and bring together AIIB’s Governors, Directors, management and staff to engage with delegations from Members, partner institutions, business leaders, civil society and experts from a range of fields. Past Annual Meetings were held in China, Korea, India, Luxembourg. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 Annual Meetings were held by electronic means. The 2022 AIIB Annual Meeting is going to be hosted in October in Russia. The Corporate Secretariat is the lead organizer to plan and organize the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors and in support of a high standard of governance and effective communications and engagement with the Bank’s members and stakeholders.

The Intern, Corporate Secretariat will work and support the Corporate Secretariat to coordinate and implement the 2022 Annual Meeting in Russia.

Intern, Complaints-resolution, Evaluation and Integrity Unit

Support the Complaints-resolution, Evaluation and Integrity Unit (CEIU) in data gathering from internal documents and external sources, considering automated processes, for application if relevant.

Intern, IT Department

The IT Infrastructure function of the IT department is responsible for managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure of AIIB. AIIB uses a cloud-first strategy and implemented a hybrid IT Infrastructure that hosts the Bank’s digital services.

The intern will get the chance to work in a start-up, fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment, and be exposed to cutting-edge cloud technology and multicultural working environment.
