Jing’an and Xuhui Shut 99% of Remaining Restaurants and Bars
It was hardly a cornucopia of choice two days ago in the downtown restaurant world, but things have suddenly taken a more serious turn. Starting on Tuesday, Jing'an district began closing, and in some cases, sealing, the handful of restaurants and bars that remained open for business. "This business is temporarily closed during the epidemic," a tamper-proof sign on says. "Let's overcome this together, thanks for your cooperation." No word was given on when the period will be over. That was followed on Wednesday by a similar wave of closures in Xuhui district, as authorities went door-to-door and closed the majority of restaurants and bars. Many places have switched to take-away or delivery. Huangpu (so and the Bund) seems less affected thus far. Grocery stores and many bodegas remain open as always (and available for delivery). If you decide to leave the house and visit a venue in the coming days and weeks, make sure to call ahead, even if our list says they're open. The situation changes by the hour. |
