On a whirlwind visit to Shenzhen on Thursday, Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying toured a hospital that a Hong Kong university helped build, saying the hospital exemplifies the ideal Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation.

Prior to the tour, he met with Shenzhen Party Chief Xu Qin, exchanging views on further cooperation on trade, finance, infrastructure and science between the two cities.

“The University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital is a unique pilot program of Shenzhen and Hong Kong cooperation in the health care sector,” Leung told a ceremony that marked the hospital’s five-year anniversary.

Praising the hospital as the “biggest and best” platform integrating medical services, teaching and research, Leung said Hong Kong residents are also benefiting from the project as it has provided services designed for Hong Kong’s senior citizens since 2015.

Looking back on his first visit to Shenzhen more than 40 years ago, Leung said that he feels the speed of Shenzhen’s development is like “traveling in a time tunnel.” Leung said he hopes the cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong will bear fruit in more fields in the future.

After the ceremony, Leung toured the hospital, joined training classes for doctors, observed how traditional Chinese medicine was practiced, watched the automatic medicine depensing system working and visited an operation room that is equipped with robots.
