NOBEL laureate Dr. Thomas C. Sudhof, along with members of Cell Group, visited the Peking University Shenzhen Hospital in Futian District yesterday afternoon.

Dr. Sudhof expressed his willingness to develop cooperation with the hospital in the field of cell science after he met with the hospital’s head, Chen Yun, and other medical experts.

Dr. Sudhof was impressed by the clinical researches on immunological cell therapy for cancer patients and molecular targeted anti-tumor drugs that have been carried out by the hospital. He said the hospital will make a major breakthrough if its research findings can be brought into practice.

The Nobel laureate said he has laid out a detailed plan for his research fields and subjects in the future, adding that the first project that he plans to roll out in China is a research project on Parkinson’s disease.

He said he benefited a lot after visiting the hospital and he will pick cooperation projects and partners carefully after discussing with his team.

Dr. Sudhof is the chief scientist at Cell Group, a biotech company based in Dongguan. The company was one of the first biotech companies to carry out stem cell research and clinical trials in China.

As a German-American biochemist known for his study of synaptic transmission, Dr. Sudhof won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2013, along with two other biochemists, James Rothman and Randy Schekman, for their work on vesicle trafficking.
