柯伟林是哈佛大学中国研究教授(T. M. Chang 讲席)、哈佛商学院斯潘格勒家族工商管理学教授,哈佛大学杰出贡献教授,现任哈佛中国基金主席、哈佛中心(上海)主席。他还曾任哈佛大学费正清中国研究中心主任、历史系主任、文理学院院长。


作为现代中国历史学家,柯伟林教授的研究关注国际环境下的中国商业、经济、政治发展。他的著作涵盖现代中国商业发展(国有和私营企业)、中国公司法及公司结构、中国自由史、二十世纪五十年代国际社会主义经济、台湾海峡两岸关系、中欧及中美关系等多个方面,并与他人合著《中国能领导世界吗?兼论实力与增长如何达于极限》(Can China Lead? Reaching the Limits ofPower and Growth)(哈佛商业评论出版社,2014)一书。他目前研究的课题包括当代中国商业案例研究、中欧美高等教育对比研究等。


1992年到哈佛任教之前,柯伟林教授曾任圣路易斯华盛顿大学历史学教授、亚洲研究中心主任以及大学学院院长。在哈佛大学,柯伟林教授历任历史系主任、哈佛大学亚洲研究中心主任、文理学院院长。作为院长,他曾领导哈佛最大的学院, 该院有一万名学生、一千名教师和两千五百名职员,年度预算达十亿美元。


柯伟林教授出任院长期间,对哈佛的本科教育进行了重大改革,加强了哈佛在海内外的国际研究、大幅度提高了文理学院本科生院和研究生院的奖学金额度, 还支持了工程和应用科学分部(现已成为学院)的发展,并且主持新建了生命科学、工程和人文等学院大楼。在其任期内,文理学院教职工人数经历了1960 年以来最快的增长。


柯伟林教授先后获得达特茅斯学院和哈佛大学的学位、以及柏林自由大学和香港理工大学的(哲学博士)荣誉学位,并先后被复旦大学、重庆大学、北京大学、南京大学、华东师范大学、浙江大学和上海社会科学院聘为名誉教授。此外, 他还是海德堡大学和柏林自由大学的访问教授,美国艺术与科学院院士。

William C. Kirby is T. M. Chang Professor of China Studies at Harvard University and Spangler Family Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. He is a Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor. Professor Kirby serves as Chairman of the Harvard China Fund and Faculty Chair of the Harvard Center Shanghai. At Harvard he has served as Director of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Chairman of the History Department, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.


A historian of modern China, Professor Kirby's work examines China's business, economic, and political development in an international context. He has written on the evolution of modern Chinese business (state-owned and private); Chinese corporate law and company structure; the history of freedom in China; the international socialist economy of the 1950s; relations across the Taiwan Strait; and China's relations with Europe and America. He is the co-author of Can China Lead? Reaching the Limits of Power and Growth (Harvard Business Review Press, 2014). His current projects include case studies of contemporary Chinese businesses and a comparative study of higher education in China, Europe, and the United States.


Before coming to Harvard in 1992, he was Professor of History, Director of Asian Studies, and Dean of University Collegeat Washington University in St. Louis. At Harvard, he has served as Chair of the History Department, Director of the Harvard University Asia Center, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. As Dean, he led Harvard's largest school, with 10,000 students, 1,000 faculty members, 2,500 staff, and an annual budget of $1 billion.


As Dean he initiated major reforms in undergraduate education in Harvard College; enhanced Harvard's international studies at home and abroad; increased substantially financial aid in the College and in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; supported the growth of the Division (now School) of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and oversaw the construction of major new buildings in the Life Sciences, Engineering, and the Arts. During his tenure, the Faculty expanded at its most rapid rate since the 1960s.


Professor Kirby holds degrees from Dartmouth College, Harvard University, and (Dr. Phil. Honoris Causa) from the Free University of Berlin and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is Honorary Professor at Fudan University, Chongqing University, Peking University, Nanjing University, East China Normal University, Zhejiang University and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. He has held appointments also as Visiting Professorat University of Heidelberg and the Free University of Berlin. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

钱乘旦,1949 年出生,历史学博士,英国考文垂大学荣誉文学博士;北京大学历史系教授,世界史研究院院长;中国英国史研究会会长,英国皇家历史学会通讯会士。


钱教授著有《走向现代国家之路》、《第一个工业化社会》、《在传统与变革之间――英国文化模式溯源》、《工业革命与英国工人阶级》、《英国通史》、《二十世纪英国》、《世界现代化进程》、《寰球透视:现代化的迷途》、《寻找他山的历史》、《思考中的历史》、《西方那一块土》等;主编《世界现代化历程》(10 卷),《英国史》(6 卷)、《英联邦国家现代化研究丛书》(18 册)、《当代资本主义专题研究丛书》(10 册)、《全球史与澳门系列研究》(11 册)、《第二次世界大战战场丛书》(8 册)等;译著有《剑桥艺术史》、《帝国斜阳》、《英国工人阶级的形成》等,撰写论文百余篇。


钱教授曾担任中央电视台12 集电视纪录片《大国崛起》的学术指导。其主要学术观点, 即改革是现代化转型的一种可能的模式;现代化是世界近现代历史的主线等,具有较大的社会影响。


钱教授曾主持多项重大科研项目, 其著作也曾多次获重大奖励。

Qian Chengdan PhD, HonDLitt, born in 1949 is now a Professor of History at Peking University and the Dean of the Research Institute of World History. He is also the President of the China British History Association and a Fellow of the British Royal Historical Society.

Professor Qian’s main arguments, such as “Reform is the possible pattern for modern transformation” and “Modernization is the main theme of the modern times”, have had a considerable influence on society. He has led a number of important academic research projects and has received many major rewards for his work.
