This US Restaurant is Selling Baozi for $3 a Pop
First jianbing made their way over to America, now baozi are following in suit.
Tom's Bao Bao, which opened this week in Harvard Square, is hoping to introduce Americans to the steamed bun, an extremely popular snack that can be found all over China. The restaurant has already generated a lot of buzz.
A single baozi at Tom's Bao Bao goes for around USD3 (RMB20), and fillings include juicy pork, curry beef, chicken, lobster, sweet potato and vegetarian. By contrast, you can get a baozi in China for around RMB1 — a twentieth of that price.
The restaurant was founded by Tom Tong, an enterprising Suzhou businessman who also owns Ganqishi, the largest baozi restaurant chain in Hangzhou.
According to China Daily, the company plans on debuting 30 chain stores in the US within the next 3-5 years.
