Beijing to Tag All Public Facilities with QR Codes by 2018
By Justine Lopez
In an effort to make Beijing a “smart city,” QR codes will be created for all public facilities in the capital by 2018, officials recently stated.
Facilities will include everything from bus stops to light poles to trash cans. Scanning the QR codes will give information about the facility to users; it will also allow citizens to easily report any problems to city officials.
According to Chen Long, a deputy director for the Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration and Environment, an initiative launched earlier this year resulted in 1,800 reports on issues with facilities, Ecns.cn.com reports.
There are currently over 1,100 facilities along Changan Avenue (from Jianguomen to Fuxingmen) with QR codes. By the end of this year, all public facilities along 50 major roads in the capital will boast QR codes. By next year, facilities on 100 roadways spanning the capital’s six districts will have QR codes.
Beijing plans to tag all public facilities in the capital with QR codes by 2018.
