China Women's Film Festival Lands in Beijing
By Justine Lopez
The fourth annual China Women’s Film Festival (CWFF) officially landed in Beijing this past weekend. The festival will run through Sunday September 25 and aims to promote gender equality in China.
As always, a plethora of Chinese and international films will be screened during the weeklong event in the capital. In the tradition of the CWFF, all films will either focus on women’s lives or tackle women-related issues.
Attendees will include filmmakers, scholars and feminists from around the world. There will also be numerous talks and discussions taking place throughout the festival and ample opportunity will be provided for attendees to network and mingle.
One of the major aims of the festival is to act as a platform for women and female filmmakers. Therefore there will be numerous female Chinese filmmakers screening their work at the event.
The festival was started back in 2013 in three Chinese cities and was the first event of its kind to revolve around film and women’s issues in China.
After completeing its run in Beijing, the festival will then go on tour during the coming months.
