Apply for the 2017-2018 M Literary Residency
Writers of the world, start thinking about China now. As part of the annual Shanghai International Literary Festival, the M Literary Residency offers two writers the opportunity to live in central locations in either Shanghai or Beijing for six-to-eight weeks with a total stipend of USD1,000 to cover additional costs, while working on their China-related opus.
The residency is open to writers of prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction and screenwriting. There are no restrictions on nationality but applicants should be over 21 years old. Applications must be submitted online with additional documents like a project synopsis and statement, work samples, two references, a CV and proof of identification also required to be included. See the full guidelines by clicking "Read more" below.
Submissions are due by January 2, 2017 and must be in English or include an English translation. The winners will be announced on March 10 during the Shanghai International Liteary Festival, which runs from March 10-22. Past winners have included Malaysian scribe Tash Aw, whose Five Star Billionaire was longlisted for a 2013 Man Booker Prize and is currently being adapted to film in Shanghai and Madeleine Thien, whose latest book Do Not Say We Have Nothing was recently shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.
