Uber China Finally Killing English App This Sunday
By Bridget O'Donnell
For those of you cunning enough not to have updated Uber in China, the stay of execution is nearly over.
On Sunday, the ride-sharing service sent a message to all users in China notifying them that the old version of the app won't be available after seven days and encouraging them to download the new Chinese-only version if they wish to continue using the service.
In case you missed it, we reported earlier this month that the newly (re)launched app became more difficult for foreigners to use following the Didi acquisition earlier this year.
Key changes include a Chinese-only interface (even if your phone is set to another language), Chinese-only payment methods (Union Pay, Alipay and Baidu Wallet), just two car options (People's Uber and Uber Black) and a base fee of RMB13 — the same as Didi's.
Uber China has said that features such as an English interface and the ability to accept international cards may be "added in future updates."
