Snapshots of Beijing's Smog-Covered Trains Go Viral
By Justine Lopez
Images of Beijing’s gross pollution are all over the internet these days, so it should be no surprise that snapshots of China’s smog-covered high-speed trains are going viral.
The pictures show that long-distance trains traveling from Shanghai to Beijing are being coated in thick layers of northern China’s dense smog as they pass through the region.
The first photos of Beijing’s smog-covered trains to go viral were posted on Monday by a passenger who was traveling to the capital from Shanghai. And it didn’t take long for others to follow suit and post similar photos to social media.
In response to the images, Beijing officials have stated that the grime seen on Beijing’s trains during the past week is likely due to smog, The Star reports. The combination of high humidity and the high density of smog particles is likely responsible for causing the pollution to stick to the trains.

Workers at the Beijing South Railway Station claim that the problem has been particularly bad during the capital’s recent bout of pollution. Employees are even being tasked with thoroughly washing the trains to remove the brown grime as trains arrive at the station.
