It has now been reported that there were "no survivors" from a German A320 Airbus crash in southern France that was carrying up to 148 people on board.

In a briefing on Tuesday, the French Interior Minister said that debris from the flight has been located in the crash area.

The German Wings passenger jet, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, crashed in the French Alps region as it was traveling from Barcelona to Dusseldorf.

In a live briefing on Tuesday, Hollande said that there were likely to be a significant number of German passengers on board the flight. "It's a tragedy on our soil," he said.

AP has reported that search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site at Meolans-Revels, an area that is particularly hard to access, according to the French President.

A room has been set aside for families of passengers at Barcelona airport, AFP has reported, while Catalan regional authorities are holding a crisis meeting with the interior ministry and the airport's management.

Local French media are reporting that 142 on board were passengers along with two pilots and four cabin crew. It is not yet clear whether anyone on the ground was injured.
