2016 has been marred with blood. A spate of terror attacks has rocked numerous cities on the world’s map, reaping innocent souls by the hundreds. Nations are on the highest levels of alert, gripped by fear and confusion. Fear seeped into people’s daily lives, but along came a sense of unity and determination to be resilient. Paris, Iraq, Brussels, Orlando, Nice and many other cities were struck by savage assaults that left the world reeling in agony over the expansion of terrorism.

Here are some of the major terrorist attacks of 2016:

On January 11, bombs in three cities in Iraq killed at least 130 people.

On February 17 and March 13, two car bombings claimed 67 lives in Turkey’s Ankara.

On March 22, three suicide bombers detonated bombs in Brussels Airport killing 32 people, and wounding 340 others.

On June 12, a gunman opened fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 people and hurting 53 before being fatally shot by police.

On June 28, a trio of suicide bombers struck Istanbul's biggest airport, Ataturk International Airport, killing 45 people and injuring more than 200 others.

On July 3, a car explosion in Baghdad killed over 300 people.

On July 14, at least 77 people were killed in Nice, France, after a truck ploughed through a crowd marking on Bastille Day.

China is no stranger to terror tragedies. On March 1, 2014, a group of knife-wielding men stormed into the Kunming Railway Station in the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province leaving 31 dead and 141 others injured. In June of 2013, a gang of 17 people attacked Lukqun Township of Turpan Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region killing 24 people, including two police officers, and wounding 23 others.

China has since vowed to strengthen national security, crack down on terrorist activities, and protect the safety of people.

With safety concerns on the rise around the world, and with the G20 Summit in the city of Hangzhou fast approaching, all security measures have been strengthened to ensure this big event could run as smoothly as possible. CCTVNEWS took to the streets of Beijing to see whether tourists and expats feel safe in China. What did they have to say? Take a look.
