Three-year-old Zhasmina Leontyeva survived a plane crash which killed two crew members and other three passengers, including her lifesaver, Olga Laponnikova.

The crashed L-410 plane was detected and spotted by local airport director Evgeny Arkhinos in woodland, which is less than one mile from Nelkan airport in Khabarovsk.

After seeing its signal vanish from the screen, Evgeny Arkhinos with the rescue team rushed to the crash site and heard a girl crying in the silence of the woods. He then tore off part of the cabin cover with his bare hands and found a little girl sitting next to a woman, who cocooned her with her own body.

The 44-year-old woman, named Olga Laponnikova, was an inspector of a kindergarten, and proved her philosophy as teacher by protecting the 3-year-old Zhasmina from death, sacrificing her own life in the process.

Luckily, Zhasimina’s life is not in danger and she has reunited with her mother, Maria, who had sent her on the very plane which crashed to live with her grandmother. However, Maria never would have thought this plane could have separated her and her daughter forever.

“I almost turned grey before finding out my daughter is still alive,” she told Daily Mail.

The cause of the plane crash is still under investigation, but bad weather conditions, technical failure and crew mistakes may all be possible.

Pilot Vladimir Misyura, who knows the dead captain, excluded pilot mistake as a cause, as the captain had plenty of experience and was a pilot instructor for various types of plane.

“Investigators will discover all the reasons for it but I heard from witnesses of the crash that the plane was about to land, then suddenly leaned to the right, turned right and fell like a stone,” he told Daily Mail.
