One of four former staff members from a scandal-hit day care center in Shanghai was caught Monday afternoon as she was travelling.

The four individuals are alleged to have forced children under two at the daycare center to swallow wasabi. After video footage appeared online, the public reacted angrily, and the four were dismissed by the day care center funded by Ctrip, a travel services provider in China.

As Shanghai police detained three of the individuals captured on camera on November 9, a woman surnamed Wu took advantage of the insufficient proof and walked away from criminal custody the first time around. As police continued to investigate the case, she was eventually put on the wanted list. The actual person-in-charge of the kindergarten class, surnamed Zheng, was detained on November 13.

Wu was captured travelling by train from east China’s Shanghai to Dalian, northeast China’s Liaoning Province on November 20 – one day after she made a quick turn-around from her parents’ house in Qinhuangdao, north China’s  Hebei Province.

When queried about her misconduct, Wu dodged her involvement and said to the police officer: "It was all around the Internet, you know it."

Zhang Xinnian, an attorney with Beijing’s Jingshi Law Firm told AIcjNews that Wu could end up with a more severe punishment if her constant travelling amid investigation was considered shirking criminal responsibility. But it should not impact the original crime she was alleged to – mistreating guardianship objects, which would put her behind bars for a maximum of three years.Though, if she was to be accused of escaping from custody, she’d face a five-year jail sentence.
