PyeongChang marked the end of the 2018 Winter Olympics with a spectacular and splendid closing ceremony on Sunday night. The ceremony, themed “The Next Wave,” had some amazing highlights, as well as the usual elements like fireworks, athlete parade and ceremonial handover to the next host. Let’s have a look at some excellent moments of the extravaganza.
Rousing and rocking music party
音乐是全世界共同的语言，还有什么比音乐更适合这样一场盛会呢？
闭幕式上，电吉他少年、玄琴表演者、摇滚乐队依次登场演奏，传统艺术和现代音乐相碰撞，产生了奇妙的火花。
The closing ceremony served viewers with an unforgettable and unique music feast. It had an awesome mix of rock and Korean folk music. Yang Tae-Hwan, a talented 13-year-old guitarist performed Antonio Vivaldi's masterpiece, "Four Seasons," in a rock arrangement. Eighty performers, playing the traditional Korean instrument geomungo, then joined the performance, showing a blending of traditional and modern music art.
风靡全球的K-pop当然也是不可缺少的元素。韩国女歌手李彩麟在闭幕式上带来脍炙人口的歌曲《坏女孩》。
还有韩流天团EXO, 他们演唱了《咆哮》和《力量》，燃爆全场。
The ceremony is also a big party for K-pop music lovers. Lee Chae-rin, the famous South Korean singer-rapper best known for her stage name CL, performed the song “The Baddest Female.” Another luminary of K-pop, South Korea’s boy band sensation EXO, enthralled the audience with their smash hits “Growl” and “Power.”
Parade of flags and athletes
闭幕式上，各代表团旗手和运动员入场仪式让现场变成了一场狂欢派对。
The parade of flags and athletes became nostalgic as Olympic heroes carried their own national flags and athletes from different countries and regions entered the stadium together once again.
中国代表团旗手由短道速滑名将武大靖担任。武大靖以39.584秒的成绩打破世界记录，霸气摘得短道速滑男子500米冠军，为中国代表队夺得本届冬奥会唯一一枚金牌，也实现了中国男子冰上竞速项目金牌零的突破。
The flag-bearer of Chinese delegation was Wu Dajing, who triumphed in the men’s 500-meter short track speed skating event with a world record time of 39.584 seconds. It's the only gold for Team China at the PyeongChang Games, as well as the first gold in the sport category in Winter Olympics.
而在运动员集体入场时，双人滑“葱桶组合”——隋文静、韩聪还现场表演了花样滑冰经典托举动作，吸睛无数。
China’s pairs figure skaters Sui Wenjing and Han Cong stole the limelight for a moment when they performed lifting, the classic maneuvers of figure skating, amid the mass of athletes. The duo won a silver medal in pairs figure skating.
汤加小哥皮塔•塔乌法托法或成为本届冬奥会最大赢家。开幕式上不畏严寒，裸上身入场的皮塔迅速成为平昌冬奥“第一网红”。闭幕式上，他“将赤膊进行到底”，再度实力抢镜。
Pita Taufatofua, the skier from Tonga, showed up as everyone expected – oiled-up and shirtless again.
“See you in Beijing in 2022”
随着闭幕式上奥林匹克会旗的交接，冬奥会也正式进入“北京时间”。而之后的“北京八分钟”更是将闭幕式推向高潮
An important function of the closing ceremony is to pass the Olympic hosting duties to Beijing, which was ready to stage the new edition of the Winter Olympics in 2022. An eight-minute-show was presented to give the world a preview of what to expect from Beijing Games four years from now.
上一次“北京8分钟”表演还是在2004年的雅典奥运会闭幕式上。短短8分钟，红灯笼、二胡还有琵琶等中国元素让世界看到了历史悠久灿烂辉煌的中华文明。
结尾时，可爱的双马尾小萝莉一句“Welcome to China”, 更是萌化众人。
本次闭幕式的“北京八分钟”依旧由雅典“北京八分钟”和北京奥运会开闭幕式导演张艺谋执导。
雅典“北京八分钟”着重于传统元素，而平昌“北京八分钟”则将高科技和艺术相结合，展现了一个崭新的中国风貌。
两个巨大的熊猫木偶化身“熊猫使者”向世界人民发出邀请。
高科技影像不仅再现了长城、五彩祥龙、凤凰展翅等中国标志性元素，也向世界介绍了新时代中国的“四大发明”——高铁、移动支付、共享单车和网购。
科技和艺术相结合的“北京八分钟”惊艳全场，也让人更期待四年之后的北京冬奥会
The show was directed by Zhang Yimou, a famous Chinese director who was also responsible for the eight-minute handover show in Athens Olympics in 2004, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies in Beijing in 2008 that received high praises from home and abroad.
Unlike “Beijing Eight Minutes” in Athens which focused on displaying profound Chinese history and culture, the one in PyeongChang highlighted the development and progress of modern Chinese society with technology like artificial intelligence and holographic technique, and at the same time relaying Chinese people’s sincere welcome to the world.
