Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou on Tuesday said Beijing considers India as a strong advocate of a multilateral world and a globalized economy.

He made the remarks two days ahead of a leaders' summit of the two countries.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold an informal summit on Friday and Saturday in central China's Wuhan City.

Speaking at a media briefing, Kong said China and India are the two biggest developing countries and emerging markets in the world, each with a population of more than a billion people, and the two are strong proponents of a multilateral world and a globalized economy, and are important pillars of world peace, stability and prosperity.

The bilateral relationship carries more strategic significance than ever before, he noted.

The meeting will conduct strategic discussions on major changes in the international landscape that have not been seen in the past one hundred years, aiming to deepen mutual trust and set a course for the development of the ties, Kong said.

Beijing also hopes to open up new prospects in China-India cooperation, and deeper cooperation will not only benefit the two countries and their peoples but also have a meaningful impact on peace and development in the region and beyond, the minister said.

Xi and Modi have interacted with each other on multiple occasions in recent years, and the upcoming informal meeting will create relaxed and comfortable and friendly atmosphere, Kong said.

"The two leaders can spend longer time with each other and they can have heart-to-heart talks with each other just like the one between friends," he said.
