王毅将于5月2日至3日访问朝鲜 | Chinese state councilor to visit DPRK in May

4月30日上午，外交部发言人陆慷宣布：

应朝鲜外务相李勇浩邀请，国务委员兼外交部长王毅将于5月2日至3日访问朝鲜。

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the invitation of the DPRK's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, China's foreign ministry spokesperson announced on Monday.

Wang will pay the visit from May 2 to 3.

上周五，朝鲜最高领导人金正恩首次踏上韩国土地，与韩国总统文在寅在板门店韩方一侧的“和平之家”举行历史性会晤。

美国总统特朗普28号在美国出席活动时表示，他将在未来3-4周内与金正恩会面。

The trip comes after last Friday's historic summit between DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in (手牵手，跟我一起走：金正恩与文在寅牵手“双跨越”朝韩分界线) and ahead of the planned meeting between Kim and US President Donald Trump in a few weeks.

The success of the inter-Korean summit appeared to encourage Trump, after days in which he had suggested his floated meeting with Kim might not take place. He revealed on Friday that the location options had been narrowed to two or three sites and the meeting will be set up "very shortly."

The DPRK leader previously visited China in late March.

"China has never been absent from the issue of the peninsula, and will never be marginalized," Su Xiaohui, deputy director of Department for International and Strategic Studies of China Institute of International Studies, wrote in an online commentary after Kim's visit to China.

"The meeting was a milestone in China's perennial effort to achieve the ultimate goal of lasting peace and stability in Northeast Asia," Victor Gao, vice president of the Center of China and Globalization, told CGTN.

As Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington strive to address the remaining challenges, such as the US-ROK military drills, the presence of US troops and THAAD missile defense systems in South Korea, and how to deal with the DPRK's existing nuclear arsenal, China will continue to play a constructive and leading role in the process.
