The construction of the much-anticipated Beijing Daxing International Airport and its supporting projects was completed on Sunday, nearly five years after it began in 2014.

The airport topped a list of the seven wonders of the modern world as assessed by The Guardian in 2016. It is the first terminal in the world to adopt a two-story design for departures and the area of its steel framed roof structure is about 180,000 square meters, which is the largest in the world.

北京将“飞”入双枢纽时代

大兴国际机场将于9月30日正式开航。届时，大兴国际机场和首都国际机场两座大型国际航空枢纽遥相呼应，北京也将进入双枢纽时代。大兴国际机场的投入使用，可以快速释放首都国际机场超容运行压力，满足首都国际机场提质增效的需求，同时也为旅客出行带来更多便利。

The new airport will officially open for operation on September 30, 2019. As Beijing's second international airport, it is expected to work with Beijing Capital International Airport to meet the city's rising demand for air travel and help relieve the passenger traffic pressure. 

By 2025, the airport will have the capacity to handle 72 million passengers annually and a total of 628,000 aircraft movements. 

“不只有高颜值，还有高科技”

大兴机场的各种高科技设施，也将为游客们带来全新的出游体验。

在机场的停车楼里，配备有帮助旅客停车的智能停车设备，旅客将车停在待泊区后便可直接离去，剩下的工作由机器人自动完成；人脸识别技术和自动安检系统也将大大提高安检效率；此外，机场航站楼里还配备有虚拟人像机器人和实体机器人，旅客可以通过它们获取航班信息、服务流程、机场设施等各类信息。

The new airport is not just about the eye-catching architecture, unprecedented terminal area and sophisticated design, multiple cutting-edge technologies in the building will make traveling a breeze.

It is expected to be the first airport in the country to trial an automated parking system, which will reduce parking time to within one minute. Facial recognition technology will help speed up the security check. Meanwhile, passengers are expected to have a paperless self-service experience from the terminal entrance to their boarding gate, and virtual interactive kiosks and humanoid robots will be ready to answer questions from passengers in the terminal of the airport.
