In late May, U.S. President Joe Biden ordered America's intelligence services to report on the pandemic's origins in 90 days.
As the deadline for the investigation is approaching now, twenty-three AAPI civil rights groups led by the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans are calling on the administration to take extra caution as it prepares results from the investigation.

美国“制止仇恨亚太裔美国人组织”12日发布的报告显示，新冠疫情暴发以来，该组织共收到逾9000起仇恨亚裔事件举报，其中近一半涉及反华或反移民言论。

In a letter sent to Biden on Thursday, the advocates warned that the "simple existence of that report would put our communities at risk."
The data showed that nearly half of the more than 9,000 hate incidents reported by Stop Asia Pacific Hate since March 2020 involved anti-Chinese or anti-immigrant rhetoric.
In the letter, the advocates said that those who believe in "conspiracy theories" are not interested in what is happening and aim to deflect criticism of early U.S. response to the pandemic and directly blame China, "by extension, Asian Americans."
吴仲义：科学家应该更谨慎
中山大学生命科学学院教授，知名进化与遗传学家吴仲义表示，如今德尔塔变异毒株在全球蔓延，证明了该病毒是在自然界中长期演化从而适应人类环境的，“极不可能”是研究人员通过“修改”病毒完成的。
“政治家可以非常确定起源是什么，但科学家应该对此更加谨慎，” 吴仲义说。
The global spread and multiple mutations of the Delta variant prove that the virus is highly unlikely that researchers could just tinker with the virus to add a few mutations and expect it to become super efficient at infecting the human population, said Wu Chung-I, professor at the School of Life Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University.
"Politicians can be very sure about what the origin is, but scientists should be more circumspect about this," Wu said.
