生态环境部：一年来我国生物多样性保护取得新成绩

11月28日生态环境部召开新闻发布会，介绍我国生物多样性保护成效。联合国《生物多样性公约》缔约方大会第十五次会议第二次会议即将于12月7日召开，大会主题是“生态文明：共建地球生命共同体”。生态环境部有关负责人介绍了去年十月大会第一阶段会议召开一年来，中国生物多样性保护取得的新成绩。

China has made progress on biodiversity protection following the conclusion of the first part of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) last October, a Chinese official said Monday.

Cui Shuhong, director of the Department of Nature and Ecology Conservation under the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment, noted that China has made new strides in mainstreaming biodiversity protection over the past year.

The country has passed the Seed Law, the Animal Husbandry Law as well as the Wetlands Protection Law and updated its list for wildlife under national protection.

China also established the first group of national parks, the National Botanical Garden in Beijing and South China National Botanical Garden in Guangzhou.

In addition, China has earnestly fulfilled the responsibility of holding the COP15 presidency to act as the driving force and coordinator in the mechanism.

Cui said that the 20th CPC National Congress stressed the importance of promoting the construction of biological security system as an important component in improving the national security system, calling for efforts to improve the diversity, stability and sustainability of the ecosystem and implement major biodiversity conservation projects.

This year's second part of the COP15 to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is scheduled for Dec 7-19 in Montreal, Canada.
