Teenage girl dies while taking selfie near railway track
She wanted a perfect selfie but ended up losing her life.
The 19-year-old in the southern Chinese city of Foshan, Guangdong Province, was slammed by an oncoming train as she posed to take a photo.
A local medical worker said the accident happened on Saturday afternoon when the unnamed girl was taking photos of herself against the background of the train track surrounded by flowers, according to Guangdong-based Foshan Daily.
The hospital staff added that the girl had instantly died on the spot, even before the ambulance arrived.
As per the media report, the girl was actually cautioned by a bystander who was at the accident site, but she didn’t deter from taking the deadly photograph.
The accident site is considered as a popular attraction among locals, as the train track is covered by a sea of roses during the spring season.
While taking selfies is never listed as an official cause of death, it has been at the center of an increasing amount of fatal mishaps over the past two years.
The US-based data-crunching website Priceonomics revealed that there have been at least 49 selfie-related deaths since 2014, adding that the average age of the victims is 21 and 75% of them are men. India has been listed as the top country for selfie-related fatalities, according to the website.
