“Have you heard of Anli安利?”

Anli (安利 ān lì) is a now commonly found word in internet slang, very similar to personal marketing, personal recommendation. If your friend wants to ‘anli’ you something, that means he/she is highly recommending something to you.

Anti originates from a company call Amway（安利）, a company that is famed for its selling model and their salesmen‘s patience in China. The sales force never tires of recommending their product, and will constantly try to sell it to you. So, the word 安利 has slowly come to describe when someone is trying so hard to recommend their favourite something to you. It could be TV shows, skin products, video games, even movie stars or idols. You will have no choice but to open your month and eat these 安利 “product” from your friends and family.

Usage method

1, 安利 as a verb, means you’re telling someone something that you’re really fond of; you highly recommend it only because you like it so much.

e.g. I want to buy a new skin product but I don’t know much about the brands, can you please 安利 me some of the good ones?

2, 安利 as a noun, is the thing(s) you want to recommend to someone else.

E.g. Open your mouth and eat my 安利!

What to do when someone wants to 安利 you something

1, When you’re kind of interested about their 安利 – give it a try!

2, When you’re not interested but you don’t wanna hurt their feelings – say you’ll give it a try

3, When you’re not interested and you don’t give an F. – ignore their安利!
