As many things do on Weibo, a series of unusual photos went viral and caught the attention of many users, including your beloved GiC team who’s always on the lookout.


Pictures of sheepherders throwing their sheep into water blew up online. 

If you’re like us 

- or anyone with a conscience - 

you’re probably thinking “Wait… What the hell?” 


Well, as it turns out, this technique helps make their wool cleaner, smoother, and prettier.

What the heck!!?



Here’s an interesting question for you: what immediately comes to mind when you think about a particular province in China?


If you’re having trouble answering that, don’t worry. 

We’ve already listed a few provinces that are known (or not) for some very special things. 


Let’s have a look:



 Shanxi: A strong love of vinegar  

It is said that a school canteen in Shanxi dispenses vinegar like water:

People from Shanxi love it so much that they even drink a bowl of hot vinegar whenever they have a cold.

The highest form of greeting or visiting is to carry a bottle of vinegar.

 Shandong province: 2.5 meter-tall green Chinese onions 



Zhangqiu Green Chinese onion bears its name from its roots (no pun intended) in the Zhangqiu district of Jinan, in Shandong province.

  Sichuan province: their airline feeds you really well  


Apparently, flight attendants of Sichuan Airlines carry baskets of potatoes they hand out to passengers.



And they’ll get you to keep eating until you’re finally off the plane!

You'll never guess how many surprises there are on Sichuan airlines.

Two months ago, their main dish was a large pan-cooked chicken [大盘鸡] with shrimp rolls [宫保虾球];

Last month, it was Hainan chicken rice [海南鸡饭] and hot pot sea fish [火锅海鱼];

This month, their main is mapo tofu balls [麻婆豆腐丸子].

Snacks include cool matcha cakes [抹茶凉糕],  chilled mango sago cream with pomelo [杨枝甘露], glutinous rice ball with osmanthus [酒酿桂花丸子], and sweet fermented glutinous rice [芋头红豆莲子羹].


They also serve crystal shrimp dumplings [水晶虾饺] and steamed creamy custard buns [奶黄包] for dim sum.

 Yunnan province:  Wild fungus  

Yunnan has an abundance of wild mushrooms which are poisonous, but it doesn’t mean they’re not edible. In fact, they’re quiet… magical.

After dinner, my mom went into the kitchen and washed the dishes. Suddenly, my dad came in, grabbed my mom and rushed her out of the room while shouting "Don't wash the dishes!! I just saw a dragon in the bathroom!! Help me catch it!!” Yep… My dad was hallucinating.




 Guangdong province: We like to make banners 


Guangdong people like to organize parties and make banners.


Married middle-aged men 

Their theme: Get rid of your wives and win back your freedom
