China's "Architectural Wonder" Mega Airport Is Set to Open!

Beijing's new airport is ready to welcome its first passengers!

The first authorized flight took off on September 17 and was operated by China Southern Airlines and China Eastern airlines.

The massive five-wing terminal airport, designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, features the most advanced security system powered by artificial intelligence (AI).  

The airport is designed to resemble the shape of a feather from a phoenix, a bird-like creature in ancient Chinese mythology.  

The airport has 'smart security checkpoints' featuring facial-recognition cameras that can turn 360 degrees.

All kinds of customs clearance equipment and inspection equipment have been debugged. The entry and exit processes are simplified, enabling passengers to check-in and board their flights by simply looking into cameras that can verify their identification with facial scanning.

More than 30 domestic first-class intelligent quarantine inspection check-points have been set up, with infrared temperature measurement, radioactive material location detection, facial recognition, entry personal information and other features, all activated within just a few seconds.

If passengers need to be isolated, they can be transferred to the most advanced "double negative pressure" isolation room by way of a special elevator for health and quarantine of the customs to effectively prevent epidemic diseases from being transported into China.

If a passenger doesn’t carry any contraband in his or her luggage, he or she can pick it up and have it go through customs security very quickly and efficiently without queuing.

An architectural wonder, the Daxing International Airport is expected to process 72 million passengers and two million tonnes of cargo, as well as 620,000 takeoffs and landings per year by 2025.

The official opening date is set to be September 30.
