New restaurants, bars and menus to try in February

2017-02-03 TimeOutBeijing

The best new food and drink spots in Beijing this month

Sureno

Restaurant revamp

Having left new-Nordic eatery The Georg, chef Talib Hudda is now at the helm at the Opposite House hotel’s Mediterranean mainstay Sureno, and – perhaps unsurprisingly – things have taken a decidedly Scandinavian twist. The rising star has crafted an all-new menu that highlights the essential flavours of the Mediterranean through a distinctly Nordic lens. Think beef tartar with fermented lobster head garum for a start.

Sake Manzo

New opening

The latest branch from one Beijing’s best-loved Japanese sushi and sake bars is in Tianshuiyuan, just south of Chaoyang Park. The new location sports some unique menu additions like cheese fondue flavoured with sake in place of white wine, and red sea bream and sea urchin hot pot. The new digs feature a renewed focus on casual drinking and bites, with a long bar and full line of sakes and Japanese grilled skewers.

Bistrot B

New menu

Chef Jarrod Verbiak has built a reputation on impeccable technique and unyielding commitment to classical French cuisine – but 2017 is all about the ingredients. The new menu at Rosewood Beijing’s French eatery sports buttery Dover sole from France for the signature sole meunière, cuts of Chilean-raised wagyu beef for a double entrecote of rib eye, and whole Atlantic sea bass cooked in a salt herb crust.

The Bar at Migas

New bar

The mad Spaniards behind Nali Patio’s Migas have given their indoor bar a new lease of life, which should keep us all happy until that summer-defining rooftop opens again. The new vibe is more refined without losing the Migas penchant for colour. Sleek leather banquets and spotlighted tables set the mood for a creative list of original tipples like a Thailand-inspired gin drink featuring fish sauce or a super-chilled, smoked old fashioned topped with burning pine.

No. 3 Mokihi

⋆⋆⋆

We were shocked by how charming the upper reaches of the 3.3 Mall could be last month, but No. 3 Mokihi won us over with its relaxed vintage look and out-of-the-way locale. Not to mention top-notch classic cocktails, with some quirky originals like a cheese powder-topped number for good measure, all with a stunning view of Sanlitun.
