The best parties this weekend

Officially the best nights out in Beijing

This is one of those weekends you just might have to party hop. On Friday, Dada is hosting synthwave genius Robert Parker (who has become a Time Out staff favourite) and Elements is bringing in R3hab, one of the most successful producers in the Dutch house genre. For those who want something a bit more underground, Rec Room is hosting a two-day-long Ran Groove showcase and release party, with six live acts to catch.

Robert Parker is a electronic producer from Stockholm, Sweden. He is one of the main-players in the synthwave (aka retrowave) scene that has been rapidly growing in popularity over the past few years. His style takes elements from '80s music and movies, as well as from French house and disco. His tracks are catchy and danceable and his style is rather impeccable. His latest album, Awakening, drops this February and he is bringing his live set to Beijing for the very first time. He will be backed by Ectoplazm and Pei.

R3hab

Fadil El Ghoul, better known as R3hab, is a Dutch DJ of Moroccan origin. He is one of the most prominent Dutch house producers, but he often dabbles in darker tones reminiscent of early psytrance. He won the IDMA Best Breakthrough Artist Award in 2012, but got his start producing the track ‘Mrkeshft’ with Hardwell in 2007. He is one of the most successful artists on Afrojack’s Wall Recordings label and currently has his own weekly radio show on SiriusXM. He is returning to Beijing as part of a full China tour.

Dim Sum Disco presents Fantastic Man

Fantastic Man is the project of Australian producer and DJ Mic Newman. Since 2011, he's been released on labels around the world and developed a distinctive sound of melodic themes and entrancing remixes. Dim Sum Disco is bringing him to party with Beijingers in Dada, where he will be joined by Boflex.

Ran Groove Vol 4 Release Party

Ran Music will be taking over Rec Room for two nights to bring you its spring label showcase and to celebrate the release of their latest Ran Groove Vol 4 Compilation with six different live acts, plus special guest DJ Watermelon.

On Friday, they will have several core members from their newly established sub-label, Ran Groove, on board. Hielektromen and the Beijing Eastside Jam Squad will bring all of their synthesizers and effects units to play live dance music and J.R.G. and L+R will play tracks ranging from soulful house to chill-step bass music.

On Saturday, Major and American producer Thruoutin will be taking over. Major was selected as one of the Top 10 Producers to Watch in 2017 by Xiami and Thruoutin is well known for his unique personal style that combines sound experimentation and filed recordings. Guest star Watermelon, one of the most respected Beijing DJs, will be spinning his vinyl collection.
