Taste the sun with these Beijing summer dishes

2017-08-14 TimeOutBeijing

Summer tends to scare a good portion of the Beijing population off to the cooler climes of neighbouring nations, but with an embarrassment of worldly food and drink options perfect for the summer simmer right here, why would you leave? Cool down with these Beijing summer dishes, and for addresses, hit '阅读原文' at the bottom of the page.

Niçoise Salad at Café Flo

For a slice of Parisian café culture, head to sunny Café Flo. Start with a refreshing classic, the Niçoise Salad (79RMB), and don’t forget to stop at the bakery for macarons and delicate cakes on the way out.

Burrata Italia at Pizza Marzano

Taste la dolce vita with Pizza Marzano’s Burrata Italia (98RMB), a cool and creamy globe of mozzarella with a rich centre, garnished with spicy rocket, roasted cherry tomatoes and topped with sweet balsamic dressing.

Dream Team at Hatsune

We have Taikoo Li stalwart Hatsune to thank for bringing Japanese fusion to Beijing. The restaurant’s Dream Team (98RMB), a California-style sushi roll with a refreshing mix of cucumber, avocado and shiso, has a kick of spicy salmon for good measure.

Grilled eel at Shin by Brick and Wood

For sashimi and authentic Japanese dishes, Shin by Brick and Wood offers a relaxed take on the fine dining menu at the brand’s first hutong restaurant. Shin’s grilled eel (98RMB), served over a bed of fluffy rice, is both sweet and savoury.

Roast goose at San Qing Tan

San Qing Tan’s signature dish (98RMB) takes the duck’s oft-overlooked cousin and gives it the full Peking treatment – with delicious results. Served alongside a bowl of biting pickled veg, its crispy skin and juicy meat make for an indulgent evening treat.

Panang beef curry at Klerm

'Klerm' is a Thai phrase for feeling happy and enjoying life through food, and at the bright and colourful eatery serving up Chiang Mai-style fare, how could you not? Don’t miss out on the spicy Panang beef curry (128RMB).

And to drink...

InfraRouge

The Shanghai restauranteurs behind some of the city’s hottest nightlife spots have brought their concept to Beijing. Taikoo Li North’s Infrarouge houses a plush French restaurant and an upstairs bar where you’ll find unique cocktails like the Black Shell (90RMB), with seafood-infused vodka, black pepper and cucumber juice.

Klerm

Klerm isn’t just about the delicious Thai cuisine – the restaurant has a creative line-up of custom cocktails as well, including the Skull Head (88RMB; above), a spicy mix of rum, gin, Tabasco and chilli. For a refreshing bevvy without the alcohol, the Lemongrass Reliever (46RMB) is a cooling combo packed with mint and lime.
