Ace your next mini-break with these Miniso travel essentials

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail, so plan accordingly

We love Beijing, but sometimes the constant overload of living in a metropolis of millions means that the only way to appreciate the city is to hop on a train and leave it (briefly).

Miniso has everything the traveller needs, all at disgustingly cheap prices. Here's how to buy everything.

Portable mirror – 10RMB

This portable mirror (10RMB) slots neatly into a backpack and ensures that, whether your chosen look is perfectly drawn-on eyebrows or massive sod-off quiff, you can look your best in any situation.

Neck pillow – 20RMB

Snooze away any flight or train journey with this supportive neck pillow. There are cuter ones available but we reckon this memory-foam number is the most comfortable.

Hand sanitizer – two for 10RMB

Hand sanitizer is awesome when you need sanitised hands. These scented ones should hopefully counteract any unpleasant smells, and come two for 10RMB.

Drink bottle (a sturdy one) – 15RMB

When this sturdy bottle is 15RMB, there's no excuse for being dehydrated. Fill it up before you set off on your adventure, and you can avoid extortionate on-train prices.

Portable magnetic lamp – 15RMB

The lighting in hostel dorm rooms is notorious for being a bit all-or-nothing; with one of these handy lamps (15RMB), which charge via USB cable, you can read, paint your nails or search for that dropped M&M in the dark without waking up and alienating all your room buddies.

Microfibre towel –15RMB

When bag space is an issue, you don't necessarily want to be carting a massive, soggy bath towel around with you. Enter this quick-dry, foldable number, which is priced at 15RMB. It might be a bit girly, but who doesn't want to dry their bits with a teddy-bear's face?

Undies – 15RMB

These seamless knickers might not be the sexiest ones around, but at 15RMB they do the job and would be ideal for crotch-emergencies. Miniso also stock men's ones, which are still pretty uggers but are also dirt-cheap at 20RMB.

Dry shampoo – 10RMB

Particularly if you've got fine, thin or greasy hair, dry shampoo can be a lifesaver. Although the artificial fruit scents are a little reminiscent of drain cleaner, these cans are only 10RMB each so who honestly cares.

Sleeping mask – 10RMB

These masks are 10RMB each and are padded. Zzz.

Wet wipes (multipack) – 5RMB

Wet wipes are another must. Stock up on one of these multipacks for 5RMB.

Shower sandals – 15RMB

Avoid slimy shower floors with these hideous sandals (15RMB), which might look like something off the set of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest but will stop you stepping in clumps of anonymous and vaguely matted hair. They're also handy to have for popping for a midnight wee on sleeper trains.

Travel bottles (set) – 15RMB

Decant weekend-appropriate portions of your favourite lotions and potions into these useful bottles; they're the right size to take on flights as hand luggage, so you won't be left fuming when a zealous security guard confiscates your pricey moisturiser. This set is 15RMB, but Miniso also sells individual containers.

Dank shades – 39RMB

They might not be the most durable sunnies around, but saving your style and your retinas with a pair of these funky glasses couldn't be cheaper, as even the priciest pair here is only 39RMB.

Electric toothbrush (39.9RMB)

Cleaning your teeth with a filthy toothbrush seems counter-intuitive. Keep things hygienic with this brush and case set (39.9RMB). We can't imagine that its vibrations are dentist-approved, but it's electric, if that's something you look for in a mouth scrubber.
