FRIDAY

Jing-A's Hutong Clan Release Party

Jing A Brewpub (Xingfucun). Fri 6. Free

This Friday night, Jing A Brewpub Xingfucun is releasing this year's batch of one of their favourite small-batch hardcore brews – the Hutong Clan CDA. Pouring for just 30RMB all night, join the jokers at Jing A as they also offer deals on smoked beef tacos (40RMB for a set of three). From 10pm 'til late they'll also have Jay 1,2 on the decks, keeping the party going with his collection of hip-hop vinyls.


Genome vs Silk

Electronic music labels Genome (Shanghai) and Silk (Beijing) bring their heaviest hitters to the capital this Golden Week holiday for a rollicking battle of the bands. Head to Dada to watch artists Kilo Vee, Khemist, Hyph11e, Charity, Puzzystack, Yesen, Miraisenshi, Bloodzboi and Noctulients battle it out for supremacy. 

SATURDAY

PK14 + Chui Wan

More old favourites represent Maybe Mars at its anniversary gigs in the form of post-punk godfathers – and arguably one of the best bands in China – PK14. Expect new tunes from the veteran Beijing rockers plus music from experimental psychedelic four-piece Chui Wan, Xi'an electro-rock duo Fazi and hardware electronic band White+.


Sulumi

China’s reigning 8-bit maestro Sun Dawei played in rock band Under Baby and began to compose electronic music back in 2000. After a two year hiatus, he returns with a new tour bringing his style of steady drum beats and melodic noise waves to Dada. Support by Zaliva D and Puzzy Stack.


SUNDAY

Javiera Mena

Yugong Yishan. Sun 8. 70RMB; 50RMB (presale)

Since her debut, Chilean singer-songwriter Javiera Mena has released four albums considered by international press and music-lovers alike to be essential gems of electro-pop music. In 2015, Mena was nominated for Best Alternative Song at the Latin Grammy awards for her third studio album Otra Era. She's joined on Sunday night by UK DJ Justin Culkin aka Juhstynn at Yugong Yishan.


Sunday Salon: Pipa artist Zhou Hui and Friends

The Bookworm. Sun 8. 50RMB; 40RMB (with the October issue of Time Out Beijing)

Chengdu native Zhou Hui began playing pipa at age six and made her public debut a year later. This month, Zhou brings selected students from the China Conservatory of Music to play solo and ensemble pieces at Time Out's interactive music series.
