Haidilao now lets you spy on its kitchens following rat scandal
When one of Beijing's most popular hot pot chains, Haidilao, was racked this summer with a hygiene scandal that included rats in kitchens and soup ladles being used to clear sewers, hot pot lovers were at risk at losing one of their favourite destinations.
Watch out for those soup ladle handles.
After a few weeks of closure, however, the soupy spot is back and cleaner than ever, after installing cameras in the kitchen that allow you to see for yourself.
The entrance hall of the Sanlitun branch now has flatscreen televisions, which livestream the spotless chefs working in their spotless kitchens, to reassure and entertain any prospective diners.
A livestream from our kitchen.
It may be a bit gimmicky, but there's no denying that the kitchens do look pretty sparkling. There's certainly something a bit voyeuristic about the whole affair, but hey, who doesn't love livestreaming?
