This week, we're waving goodbye to November and welcoming in the
freezing weather and festive spirit of December. If you're as shocked as
we are about where this year's gone and can't even bear to celebrate
Christmas yet, Beijing's still got plenty going on that doesn't involve
eggnog and mistletoe.

North Korean filmmaking: behind the scenes

Koryo Tours founder Nicholas Bonner presents another of his insightful presentations about North Korea's film industry. Giving an illustrated talk that includes his own personal experiences and anecdotes, Bonner will also show never-before-seen photographs from his feature film Comrade Kim goes Flying.

Steve Aoki has been riding above the EDM wave since the '90s, and now he's bringing his high-energy set to what is sure to be a sweaty crowd of ravers at Sir Teen.

Pierre-Laurent Aimard
Widely acclaimed as a uniquely significant interpreter of piano repertoire from every age, Pierre-Laurent Aimard enjoys an internationally celebrated career. In recognition of a life devoted to the service of music he was awarded the prestigious 2017 International Ernst von Siemens Music Prize this year. Aimard is set to perform a programme of Chopin, Messiaen and Beethoven.

Sunday Salon, an interactive performance series that takes you behind the music of China, is back. This month showcases Michelle Yip, a teacher and Fulbright scholar, joined by pianist and frequent collaborator Cao Hui, associate professor of the Central Conservatory of Music. The two award-winning musicians will perform four-handed piano works by composers such as Astor Piazzolla and Wendy Wan-Ki Lee, including the Beijing premiere of Lee's Night Fantasy.
