Watch the best films from the 2017 EU Film Festival
Don't miss screenings of must-see films from this year's festival
In October, the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) celebrated ten years
of introducing Europe's best films and creative luminaries to China.
Organized by the Delegation of the European Union to China, this annual
festival is dedicated to screening each member state's (yes, the United
Kingdom still gets a look-in) most prestigious and intriguing films,
including winners from Cannes Film Festival and the Berlinale.
For those of you who missed out on the main wave of screenings in October, Institut Francais
is currently screening a curated list of some of the top films from
this year's festival. Tickets are 50RMB each, and you can buy them at
the Institut Francais. Here's what's still on:
Short films of EUFF
Wednesday 13 December, 6-8pm
Featuring critically-acclaimed short films 90 Degrees North, Small Talk, Amalimbo, The Goodbye, Edmond and Panthéon Discount, this screening will be followed up a Q&A with Mathieu Bompoint, producer of Mezzanine Films.
Anthropoid
Friday 15 December, 6-8pm
Starring Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy, Anthropoid is based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid, the WWII
mission to assassinate the main architect
behind the Final Solution and the Reich's third in command after Hitler
and Himmler, SS General Reinhard Heydrich.
Ismael's Ghosts
Saturday 16 December, 6-8pm
Ismael's Ghosts (Les Fantômes d'Ismaël) was the opening film for this year's Cannes Film Festival. Starring Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Ismael's Ghosts follows the story of a widowed filmmaker whose former lover, long presumed dead, suddenly reenters his life.
Bloody Milk
Sunday 17 December, 6-8pm
Selected this year to compete in Cannes Film Festival's La Semaine de la Critique, Bloody Milk (Petit Paysan)
follows the story of Pierre, a breeder of dairy cattle. When one of his
cows suddenly contracts a deadly infectious disease, Pierre finds
himself stopping at nothing to make sure the rest of his herd survives.
Jeannette
Sunday 17 December, 8-10pm
A dramatization of Joan of Arc's childhood, Jeannette is
a bizarre, but entertaining, French musical film that brings to life
the early chapters of the future saint's life in song. Check it out for a
slightly blasphemous take on French history, religion and music.
King of the Belgians
Friday 22 December, 6-8pm
This
lighthearted and highly likable film takes the form of a mockumentary,
and follows the Belgian king as he attempts to return home from Istanbul
after a major political crisis. Unable to fly home due to a solar
storm, the king and his entourage embark on a tumultuous trip across the
Balkans.
