It's the end of an era as Ron Mexico shuts its doors
Hutong favourite bids farewell with final celebration
Gulou is saying goodbye to crowd favourite, Ron Mexico on January 16 with an 'all night affair.'
The popular hutong survivor broke the news last Saturday on the bar’s WeChat group, inviting its fans for a bacchanal Tuesday night. With discounted liquor and beer in an 'everything must go' fashion, it guarantees a night you probably will forget.
Ron Mexico started with humble beginnings as a tiny neighbourhood bar in Yongkang Hutong. A triumphant march down Andingmen Neidajie then signified the opening of its new location with more space and fewer noise complaints.
Though the Ron Mexico title is retiring, the 110 square metre space is merely pausing for a second act under new ownership and management after bar co-founder Adam Gottschalk's recent move to Queenie's in Chaoyangmen.
Another beloved hutong restaurant will be closing its doors on January 27. Palms LA Kitchen and Bar, a popular Korean-Mexican fusion restaurant, will be shutting down its Gulou location. But rest easy, the Liangmaqiao branch remains unaffected.
