Visa news: you can now verify your graduation diploma online
No more trips to the embassy. Diploma verification is just clicks away.
If you're already working in China, the mention of 'diploma verification' might bring back memories of tedious journeys made to the embassy and consulate and various appointed educational organisations. Luckily for new applicants there's now the option to do so online.
Launched by the Ministry of Education, the Domestic and International Diploma/Certificate Verification System has been operational since January 22. It functions on a large database of information shared by educational institutions and governments from around the world to authenticate the applicant's nationality, degree enrolment and academic performance. On a larger scale, the verification service was implemented to combat the widespread issue of diploma forgery and consequently, the issue of credibility in China's job market.
In need of the service now? Here are some quick facts to get you started:
The new online service is currently available in Simplified Chinese only, so grab a friend who can read and write out some of the terms for you;
You can submit all the necessary documents (passport photo, copy of ID, transcript and declaration) in digital formats;
The application fee is 360RMB. Delivery fee is an additional 15RMB (Beijing); 25RMB (other cities); or 95RMB (Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan). The only acceptable payment method for now is UnionPay;
The verification certificate will be mailed back to the applicant's registered address via EMS;
There's also a step-by-step manual to walk you through the application process (Simplified Chinese).
