The musician brings his deeply personal tour to the capital

Linkin Park co-creator Mike Shinoda comes to the capital this August to perform his first Beijing solo concert. His live tour, Post Traumatic, presents songs from his latest album of the same name, as well as hits from Fort Minor and Linkin Park. Set to grace the stages of Beijing and Shanghai, these performances will be his first solo venture in China.

While Shinoda's Fort Minor and Linkin Park tracks are well-known anthems that got many of us through the 2000s, his new songs are set to be just as enchanting, but with a hard-hitting meaning behind them. Shinoda's debut album Post Traumatic explores his feelings following the death of his best friend and Linkin Park co-vocalist Chester Bennington. After Bennington's suicide in July 2017, Shinoda found his way back from darkness through the creation of his new album. The tracks catalogue his passage through grief, opening with 'Place to Start' that features haunting recordings of condolence messages Shinoda received last year.

'Whenever I'm dealing with something difficult, I turn to painting and music. It helps me sort through the past, present and future. But that's only part of the story. This album and its accompanying visuals were made not just for the catharsis, but for the connection and shared experience it provides. I don't know where all this leads, but I am intensely grateful I get to share it with you.'

Post Traumatic's release and Shinoda's live tour are an apt exploration for recent times. With numerous suicides unfurled across the front pages of late, Post Traumatic's deeply personal expression of the aftermath of a friend's death is a pertinent example of how mental health affects us all. But as Shinoda himself says, 'it's a journey out of grief and darkness, not into grief and darkness.' This latest tour is set to become an evocative source of strength and understanding.

Shinoda doesn't just stop at being an incredible vocalist and songwriter: he's also a musician, record producer and graphic designer. He co-founded his own record label Machine Shop Records and started Fort Minor, a hip-hop side project for collaborations with Ryan Maginn and Takbir Bashir.

Mike Shinoda performs at Beijing Exhibition Center on August 12, with tickets going on sale at 10am on Friday 22 June.
