The best live music in Beijing this July
Beijing's music scene frequently attracts some of the best names in music, both locally and from abroad, and July is no different. Don't miss the chance to rock out with a bunch of brilliant artists, right in your own backyard.
Duck Fight Goose
Yugong Yishan. Jul 7. 160RMB; 120RMB (presale)
One of Shanghai's best bands perform their latest album in full with support from excellent Beijing rapper DVC.
All-4-One
Blue Note. Jul 7-8. 480RMB
You've gotta hand it to All-4-One. After more than 25 years in the biz, the American R&B pop group – best known for their cover of 'I Swear' – have never broken up or lost any original members, making them a rare unicorn in the fickle world of '90s boy bands.
Bang Gang
Tango. Jul 10. 480RMB; 380RMB (presale)
The brainchild of songwriter and producer Barði Jóhannsson, down-tempo Icelandic band Bang Gang arrive in China to perform music off their 2015 album The Wolves are Whispering, a sonically ambitious and deeply personal collection of songs that also marks their first release since embarking on a seven-year hiatus.
Radwimps
Cadillac Arena. Jul 14. 599-1,399RMB
Since releasing their eponymous debut album in 2003, Japanese band Radwimps have morphed from fresh-faced fledgling four-piece (now trio) to top-selling chart fixtures, thanks to their eclectic pop-rock sound and contributions to anime soundtracks, including a critically acclaimed score for 2016 mega-hit Your Name.
Carl Barât
Tango. Jul 20. 400RMB; 330RMB (presale)
What became of the likely lads? Beijing gets to find out what one former Libertines frontman has been up to since the celebrated lad rock outfit fell apart back in 2004 – and then reunited.
Chui Wan
Yugong Yishan. Jul 21. 150RMB; 100RMB (presale)
Having positioned themselves at the forefront of Beijing's experimental music scene, the indie psych-rockers and Maybe Mars stalwarts return to where it all began after a jam-packed world tour. Excellent Shanghai rockers Dirty Fingers support.
Chinese Football
Tango. Jul 21. 180RMB; 150RMB (presale)
Wuhan-based post-emo rockers Chinese Football return to the capital to share the stage with other scrappy up-and-comers, including Nova Heart, SNSOS, Last Goodbye, Island Mood and more.
FKJ
Tango. Jul 27. 300RMB; 260RMB (presale)
Vincent Fenton, aka FKJ (French Kiwi Juice), is a French multi-instrumentalist and singer who's been described as 'one of the flag bearers of New French House'. Having performed at festivals around the world including Coachella, Euphoria and Lightning in a Bottle, he's slated to perform music off his self-titled debut album.
Kid Francescoli
Mao Livehouse Wukesong. Jul 31. 100RMB; 80RMB (presale)
The French electro-pop outfit, which emerged back in 2002, hit Beijing in support of their genre-hopping latest album, Play me again.
Honne
Tango. Aug 1. 320RMB
The Engish electronic duo, consisting of James Hatcher and Andy Clutterbuck, create music that's been described as 'futuristic soul destined to reinvent babymaking music'. They're also named after a Japanese word for inner desires, which seems a good fit for their lusty, yet tasteful, shag anthems.
