City envy: a Stan Lee-themed comic con is coming to Shanghai

Another chance to get your geek on in Shanghai

Clear your schedules, comic fans: it looks like a Stan Lee Comic Universe is coming to Shanghai, and it's got us feeling some serious city envy. 

Themed around comics legend Stan Lee and his sprawling range of comic and media titles, the convention is set to take place at Shanghai's World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre from October 1-3.

Expect the standard comic con fare of cosplay contests, autograph signings, comic, film and entertainment exhibitions and heaps of merch – confirmed to be attending so far is famed pop artist Burton Morris. Also planned for the Stan Lee Comic Universe convention is an e-sports tournament and an electronic music festival. Though Lee is best known as the co-creator of famous Marvel Comics characters like Spiderman, Thor and Iron Man, it's unlikely that Marvel or the blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature hugely at this convention as those franchises are tied to Disney.

Still, there should be plenty to nerd out over. And with Beijing Comic Con looking like a total non-starter (again) this year, this might be your best shot to work on some serious cosplay (until Shanghai Comic Con that is).
