Hot Tables: Free burgers, mulled wine, new winter menus and more

TimeOutBeijing 2019-05-16

The latest on Beijing's restaurants and bars

Hot Tables is our round-up of the city's latest (and greatest) food and drink news in bite-sized chunks, covering new openings, new menus, new dishes – hell, new reasons to live and breathe. Sometimes a sprinkling of closures, too, because this is Beijing. Anyhow, here's what's on our radar this week.

Boozy winter drinks at Slow Boat

Starting from this week, Beijingers can drink away their pre-winter blues (it was nice while it lasted, autumn) with the return of Slow Boat's range of boozy festive drinks. Warm up with a mug of spicy mulled wine (50RMB) or try their hot buttered rum (55RMB), made from strong buttered rum, gingerbread spices and brown sugar. Head down there from 4 to 8pm Monday to Friday to enjoy 10RMB off and get a head start on this season's hygge vibes.

Tribe's new autumn/winter menu

Speaking of hygge, Tribe's just launched its newest autumn/winter menu, full of seasonal favourites like pumpkin, beetroot, eggplant and more. The full menu's extensive – we're talking smoothie bowls, grain bowls (including one served in an entire roasted pumpkin), wraps, pasta, pizza, salads and dessert – but particular highlights include the whole wheat pumpkin pasta (pictured), lamb meatball grain bowl, eggplant pizza and blueberry pie. And as always, the ever-reliable eatery's also thought up plenty of options for both vegetarians and vegans. For the full menu, click here.

Pizza party at Village Café

From now until Tuesday 6 November, The Opposite House's Village Café (temporarily moved to Sureño's old digs) is dishing up buy one, get one free pizzas from 6 to 9pm. Assemble a crew and take your pick from parma ham (128RMB), margherita (88RMB), buffalo mozzarella (128RMB) and more. There's even Hawaiian pizza (128RMB) for that mate who always insists on ordering it.

Free burgers at Royal Stacks

In celebration of Melbourne Cup Day, Australian burger-slingers Royal Stacks are handing out free Single Stack burgers to all Aussies in Beijing (sorry, non-Australians) this Tuesday 6 November. Simply flash your Australian passport or driver's license to get your burger (limited one per customer) and reap the rewards of coming from a land down under. Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi.

New brews and dishes at Great Leap

Finally, Great Leap's launched two new additions to its Homegrown Series of beers – the October Sky Amber Wheat and hefty Stanford Pines Smoked Stout – now available at both the #45 and #6 outlets. To mark the occasion, the kitchen's also devised three new dishes to go with them over at #45, including smoked trout croquettes with lemon basil aioli (35RMB), pork spare ribs with lapsang BBQ sauce (50RMB, pictured) and lemon panna cotta with yangmei jelly (30RMB). Sounds pretty good to us.
