Shots, shots, shots: We tried 7-Eleven's ready-made Sling Shots

Grab these 7-Eleven shots for a quick and convenient pre-game

Ever wanted to enjoy mixed shots, but couldn’t be bothered going to the effort of actually pre-mixing? Well clearly someone at 7-Eleven has, because the convenience chain’s recently launched a range of dual-flavoured, ready-to-drink shooters named Sling Shots.

With an ABV of 16 percent, these pint-sized party starters aren’t exactly heavy hitters. However, priced at only 15RMB each, these yin yang shots boast an impressive mash-up of (artificial) flavours – suitable for when you need an energy hit that only neon colours and plenty of sugar can provide. We taste-tested four Sling Shots to see if they’re worth the hype – for science, and for you, our readers.

Side note: We tasted each of these little cups of joy without chilling them – because that’s how 7-Eleven sells them (and partly because we forgot to chill them), but our top tip would be to chuck ‘em in the fridge to enhance the experience.

Pink’n Peachy

With a combo of peach schnapps and cranberry liqueur, this fruity, borderline-cough medicine takes us back to our halcyon days of bottled alcopops – when we still liked our alcohol radioactively coloured and achingly sweet. This one gets bonus points for helping us take a walk down memory lane – and the peach flavour isn’t bad either. Quite possibly the easiest shot for session drinking. 6/10

B-52

Named after iconic new wave band The B-52’s, this retro shooter – made, in this case, of coffee liqueur and triple sec orange liqueur – is a bona fide American classic. That being said, dairy-citrus mixes have us feeling distinctly cautious (curdling, anyone?), and this bad boy’s pungent artificial orange flavour doesn’t really help matters. Taking the always-solid approach of drink now, ask questions later, 7-Eleven’s B-52 has a flavour which can only be best described as ‘orange tic-tacs left out too long in the sun then mixed with coffee’. Our least favourite from the pack with an aftertaste we’re not keen on savouring again any time soon. 4/10

Strawberry Surprise

A combination of strawberry and vanilla cream liqueur, this shot would definitely benefit from being refrigerated (no one wants room-temperature dairy). Despite that, the syrupy strawberry cordial flavour when paired with its milky counterpart was a breeze to wash down and reminded us of strawberries and cream during summer – since when did booze get us so sentimental? 7/10

Blazing Cowboy

For fans of butterscotch or toffee, it’s frankly quite hard to go wrong with this lone ranger. Butterscotch schnapps and Irish crème liqueur make for one of the smoothest drinking experiences we’ve ever had (at 7-Eleven), and it’s a solid alternative if you can’t be assed forking out for an entire bottle of Baileys. Or butterscotch schnapps, for that matter. 8/10
