Summer sorted: Time Out X Beijing WTown Summer Events

TimeOutBeijing 2019-10-22

Time Out Beijing and Beijing WTown are collaborating in a big way this summer with great events and packaged stays just for Time Out readers. The line-up includes glamping by The Great Wall, a riotous pool party and a festive night market.

For those unfamiliar with Beijing WTown, it is a water town fashioned after the famous ones in China’s South. Think of it as an oriental Venice, but just a two-hour drive away from Beijing. The town is an immersive cultural experience. Wander along its narrow hutongs, past Qing dynasty-style buildings and grand plazas while feasting on traditional snacks or making crafts such as kite-making. At almost every turn, you can see its other star attraction, the Simatai Great Wall in the background.

Beijing WTown is right by the Simatai Great Wall or specifically, the Gubeikou section, which dates all the way back to 555 BC. This section was the site of many battles, which is why you’ll find some of the most interesting and imposing watchtowers around along its length. It’s normally a bit far from Beijing proper, but with Time Out Beijing X Beijing WTown’s line-up of events, you finally have (three) reasons to go.

Glamping by The Great Wall

While most have been to the Great Wall countless times, not many have actually camped by it... nor want to, given its harsh environment and the logistics of lugging up camping equipment. Well from June 1, you can take the lux option with the Glamping by The Great Wall package which includes:

  • Plush accommodation in a tent.

  • Barbecue dinner and movie night for two.

  • Guided cycling tour to the Great Wall.

  • Beijing WTown admission for two.

  • Yoga on The Wall session held at sunrise.

The two-day package is priced at 1,099RMB for weekdays and 1,199RMB for weekends and is only available until September 15. Scan the QR code below to book.

If you'd rather stay in a hotel room, there's also a two-day hotel room package which includes:

  • Suite room.

  • Beijing WTown admission for two.

  • Great Wall admission for two.

  • Hot spring spa experience for two.

  • Barbecue dinner and movie night for two (pictured below).

Wtown Pool Party

It’s not summer if you don’t have a pool party. And while there are the usual dos popping up all over the city, opt for the unique poolside party at Beijing WTown with guest DJs pumping up the beats, barbecues and most likely free flow of cocktails and ice-cold beers.

Summer Carnival

And to take advantage of those balmy summer nights, Beijing WTown will also be hosting a summer carnival with a fun night market. Expect an evening of fun with vendors setting up shop in its massive square. From beer to chuan’r and games to knick-knacks, the bustling carnival atmosphere amid traditional buildings is an experience you’ll never find in central Beijing.

These events, coupled with Beijing Wtown's existing cultural performances, historical streets and traditional setting, make a trip up to Miyun an attractive proposition this summer.

Watch this space as we unveil more details and competitions for free stays in the coming days.
