From swanky cocktails bars to cosy hutong hangouts, here are the latest addition to Beijing's al fresco drinking spots
A new week in summer means a new slew of rooftops and patios in Beijing for us to sip on drinks, nosh on bites, and soak in the sun. With cooler temperatures expected this weekend, there’s no better time to enjoy the summer breeze with a refreshing drink before the sweltering weather returns. Read on for these latest additions to our list of the best outdoor bars in the city.

Fangjia’s thriving hutong bar The Great Outdoor has moved in with craft brewer Foam Lab to create a laid-back atmosphere served with a plenty of local beers on tap. The brewpub features a spacious, bright courtyard just a stone’s throw away from Chaoyang Park, perfect for unwinding and event-hosting on weekends.
The Great Outdoors X FoamLab. First floor, Huaxi International Apartment, Chaoyang district 朝阳公园西3门碧湖居南路华熙国际公寓 Open 5pm-2am daily
The Courtyard Bar

The Courtyard bar is a Brooklyn-style pop-up bar by the Ritz-Carlton Beijing that boasts a semi-outdoor venue with speakeasy vibes. Tucked away in an unobtrusive location beside the hotel entrance, its terrace is an ideal option for those who prefer enjoying the summer breeze in an al fresco setting that’s more private. Its menu features a premium selection of expertly-crafted cocktails and experimental dishes that ranges from rainbow-coloured bagel to Sichuan-styled crawfish. It also has live DJ performances every Tuesday and Saturday.
The Courtyard Bar. 83 Jianguo Lu, China Central Place, Chaoyang district. 朝阳区建国路甲83号华贸中心 Open 2pm-1am daily.
Stream

There isn’t quite a bar like Stream in Beijing. The Liangmaqiao outpost is worth a visit for featuring a mostly red surface and a schizophrenic mix of over-the-top decors. The main attraction of the bar though is its tropical outdoor terrace. Follow its red spiral staircase to find the rooftop, and grab a seat inside the transparent, bubbled-shaped bio-domes that seats six comfortably (with a minimum spend of 600RMB). Take in the bar’s psychedelic neon glow and all of its red interiors with a number of tea-inspired cocktails served in quirky presentations.
Stream. 15-29 Xiaoyun Lu, Xiaoyun Houjie, Chaoyang district 霄云路15-29号霄云后街 Open 7pm-2am daily
ZhaZha Bistro

This newly-opened hutong bistro serves both bites and drinks inspired by the street food in Southwest China. It sports floral wallpapers complimented by large windows and natural lighting, and what we love most about the setup is that it comes with ample seating areas which include an outdoor ledge and balcony – perfect for enjoying small bites and fruit boozes in the open air. While most of their drinks are rice-wine-based, Zhazha Bistro is gearing up to launch a new cocktail menu this month. Stay tuned as we're definitely down to try more of their southern-inspired drinks.
ZhaZha Bistro. 108 Xixinglong Jie, Dongcheng district 东城区西兴隆街108号 Open 11.30am-10.30pm Tue-Sun
