It's time to get planning and dig out your special stretchy trousers. Next Thursday, November 28 marks Thanksgiving, that American holiday filled with pies, parades and presidential pardons (of turkeys). 

For those of you wanting to stuff yourself on some turkey, but frankly can't be arsed cooking your own (who even owns an oven, or keeps one in use in Beijing?), there's a wealth of restaurants out there who've done all the heavy lifting, and basting, for you – just be sure to book in advance. Read on for our picks below for where to get your turkey fix in Beijing. 

Thanksgiving with The Orchid

The Orchid. Nov 28. 7-10pm. 268RMB per person

Join for a classic Thanksgiving fare at the Orchid Lodge. The menu includes all the holiday staples, from roasted turkeys with gravy to mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, sweet potato pie and candied yams. For reservations, call 131 2013 1775.

Thanksgiving at Homeplate

Home Plate BBQ. Tue 22. 6.30-9pm. 388RMB/188RMB (children aged 12 and under)

Head to Home Plate to gorge on some sumptuous Thanksgiving offerings. Serving a buffet of whole smoked turkeys, whole smoked hogs, and all the other classic fixings, including whipped garlic mashed potatoes, pecan-crusted sweet potatoes, country green beans, and bourbon cornbread pudding for those with a sweet tooth – just to name a few. Turkeys and sides are available for takeaway at 1,688RMB, or on an ala carte basis.

Thanksgiving at Jing A

Both of Jing A's outposts are accepting reservations for Thanksgiving dinners. The menu includes honey-glazed turkeys, which you can choose from a quarter (600RMB), half (1200RMB) to a whole bird (2400RMB), served alongside traditional sides such as a homemade Chorizo stuffing, crispy Brussel sprouts, roasted garlic mash, cranberry sauce, and a classic pumpkin pie, as well as kegs of Jing A's Monster Mash Pumpkin Ale. For reservations at their Xingfucun location, call 6416 5195, or 8400 1058 at their Longfusi outpost.

American Thanksgiving at the Great Wall

Come share a feast and give thanks under the stars of Mutianyu Great Wall this coming Thanksgiving. Whet your appetites with a whole roast turkey served family-style and finish it off with a dessert buffet, with live music and entertainment under one of China's most iconic sites. Brickyard will offer special school bus services for those without private cars. Thanksgiving at Beersmith

Beersmith is putting on the full works with juicy, slow-roasted turkeys and all the trimmings, including chestnut stuffing, the traditional sides of roasted potatoes, and mashed sweet potatoes, squash with dried cranberries and pecans. Suitable for large families or Friendsgiving, the meal feeds a group of eight. Call 8647 1098 for reservations. 

Thanksgiving at Miam Miam

Enjoy a whole roasted turkey that also feeds a group of eight at Miam Miam, served alongside four garnitures and two sauces. Reservations need to be made two days in advance (call 8436 7501).

Thanksgiving Dinner and Party at Hutong'er Pie

Capital Spirits and The Distillery. Thu 28. 7pm-late. 277RMB 

Hutong'er Pie pairs up with Capital Spirits for a family-style Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoy a classic turkey dinner and all the trimmings (and, of course, lots of pie) served by the pie purveyors at Capital Spirit's latest incarnation at Longfusi.

Enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner at Chapter for 338RMB per person, or 468RMB for a set menu at 29 Grill. You can also order a turkey takeaway at 2,019RMB, including a six-kilogram turkey with sauces and sides, pan-fried turkey stuffing roll, stir-fried brussels sprout, butter-fried chestnuts and more. 

Thanksgiving at Signature's Restaurant

Eat all you can at Signature's Restaurant's Thanksgiving buffet, with live-cooking stations and DJs spinning music to get you into the festive mood. Offerings include whole roasted turkeys, Thanksgiving ham with sweet potatoes, homemade pastry and pumpkin pie, as well as free-flow Paulaner beer, house wine, and soft drinks. 

Thanksgiving at The Opposite House

The Local

The Local is offering a Thanksgiving dinner where you can choose from either a turkey meal (containing 300g of turkey and individual helpings of each of the sides) or the vegetarian option (which serves the same sides but replaces turkey with gnocchi).
