Vegan nuggets & Beyond Meat burgers are now a thing in KFC China
Perhaps given a vote of confidence from the debut of Starbucks China’s plant-based menu in collab with Beyond Meat, KFC has also jumped on the faux meat wagon and officially taken the plunge to launch two meaty, but meatless menu options in the Chinese mainland, according to its official Weibo account today.
Following a successful three-day trial run across three outlets in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in April, the fast-food juggernaut has now added two plant-based items to its menu as mainstays. It features a vegan 'chicken' nugget made by US agribusiness Cargill, and a cheeseburger with Beyond Meat patty, which advertises its pea-protein blend as more effective and nutrient-pack than beef.
The Beyond Burger and vegan nuggets are now available in 210 KFC outlets across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Wuhan. Craving some guilt-less junk food? Now that more non-meat 'meat' options have landed in major chains, fingers crossed that we'll soon be spoilt for choices everywhere.
