Nugget Cafe. Tue 8. 8pm-10pm. FREE
Nugget is hosting a special screening of Asian queer rom-com flick Saving Face this Tuesday. One of the early works of Taiwanese-American director, Alice Wu, Saving Face tells the story of Wil, a closeted young Chinese-American doctor in New York, whose traditionalist mother keeps trying to set her up with eligible bachelors in the Chinese community. As a reluctant but dutiful daughter, she goes along with the farce but dodges the would-be suitors, and instead, met Vivian at one of the matching-making events, a dancer who’s on a sabbatical from the New York City Ballet. What follows is a story of star-crossed young lesbians fighting for love while a narrow-minded community closes in on them.
